Status

Location
Kota Samaarahan, Sarawak, Malaysia

Project Description
The Salvation Army Community Complex in Kota Samarahan was developed to bring together the organisation’s former Boys’ Home at Jalan Ban Hock and Children’s Home at Jalan Upland into a new, cohesive home for children in Sarawak. The 7.5-acre site comprises a public complex with a chapel and multipurpose hall, administrative offices, boys’ and children’s homes, staff quarters and supporting facilities.
The accommodation complex is organised into four family units, with shared living, dining, pantry, storage and recreational spaces designed to create a homely environment for the children. The buildings incorporate passive design strategies, including natural cross ventilation, daylighting, large roof overhangs and patterned brick screens for shading, privacy and visual texture.
The project was constructed from 2021 and completed in June 2023.
